NaNoWriMo vs PaNoWriPro

It's just around the corner. November, I mean. November used to mean Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Now we think of NaNoWriMo.

You know what it is, right?

"National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30."

To be a part of the project, you follow ten easy steps for signing up, writing and logging your word count, and if you finish, uploading your manuscript for validation.

It's a cool way to jump start a novel.

It's not for me, though. I'm already a binge writer, so I know the drill. But I march to a different drummer. I'm binge writing in spurts this month. September. This is PaNoWriPro.

That's right. Patricia's Novel Writing Project. I have some nice blocks of writing time lined up during the next four days. My goal for this round is 10,000 words.

Anyone want to write along?

I'd love to join you, Pat, but it will conflict with AlHoClePro (Alan's House Cleaning Project). Maybe next time!

Good luck on those 10K. Nose to the grindstone, and all that. (Keep away from on-line distractions!)

Alan, I think we've started something fun. We have PaNoWriPro and AlHoClePro. Who else has one for the list?

I'm rather caught up in ElBaToSchoPro (Elspeth's Back to School Project) getting my teenagers and 12 year old back into routine. However, AFTER next Tuesday (which is when they're back in the schools' blessed halls) I might join you in your mighty goal. It might urge me along. Interested?

Thanks for the link. Just what I need. A little structure and a goal to get me to finish my next book entitled Opening and get it off to my editor/proofreader.

I don't think NaNoWriMo is for me either. Currently I'm working on the JaCaUpPro - which is Jane's Catch Up Project.

All these new words! I'm already tired reading about everyone's projects.

You go, girl. Write those 10,000 words.

My goal is to set up Skype. Then I'll jump into 3Mo2WriBo -- my publisher is about to assign me my next book, which means I'll have ThreeMonthsToWriteBook (3M2WriMo).

Called upon to be clever, I can only sound dumb, so, I’ll save you and the other readers the embarrassment. I will observe that 10K words in a week is a bunch of words, well, anytime, but particularly in four days. Good luck with that.

"PaNoWriPro" - lol, I LOVE it! I'm a binge writer also. The Nano thing is no use to me - when I'm in the "zone" I write 3-5,000 words a day without even thinking about it. But it's a good thing for authors who need to acquire discipline and the ability to stick their nose to the grind stone. Looking forward to you progress reports!

If anyone is checking back to see if I'm around, I had 2300 words in by suppertime.

And Elspeth, if we can get our schedules in sync (and that's not easy with me), I'd love to have someone writing along. A little moral support (and a friend in the trenches) is always a good thing.

Marvin, maybe binge writing is a stubborn old hippie/contrary old broad thing -- we do want we want when we darned well feel like it.

Oh, Galen, come on. You know you can be funny any time you want. But I'll help you along. We'll call your project GaFuBloPo (Galen's Funny Blog Posts) and commission you to write lots of them. TMP? (Too much pressure?

I love the project names, everyone. I think I'll bring them back in a future post and tweet that one out to the world (maybe closer to NaNoWriMo).

I'm planning to do NaNo again this year. Last year was my first time, and I loved it. I'm one of those who really needs to discipline myself, so for me it's a good thing. As for joining you in the 10K thing - I would, but I'm currently engrossed in JuReFroHospSta - Julee Recuperates From Hospital Stay - and I'm trying to behave and stay in a reclining position as much as I can force myself to.

NaNo is a double edged sword for me. As you said, it is a great way to jump start into your novel and get a rough draft to paper. I find I really have to take control and focus though or I stress and focus too much on the word count (at least my first year, last year was much better). What I like is the committment and comraderie with your friends who are also in the trenches writing away with you. Good luck with your 4 day marathon Patricia and the rest of you joining in!
