I Was Just Thinkin'...

1. That I should take a whole week off from blogging,

so I'm going to be on blog-holiday from Wednesday, December 22 through Tuesday, December 28th (although I'll probably have something short and sweet at Chiseled in Rock on the 28th).

2. That I haven't been to a movie theater in ages, and my hubby isn't fond of movies,

so I'm going to go to an afternoon movie once a week for the rest of December while my hubby is playing bridge . That's four whole movies. I'm getting excited just thinking about it.

3. That we rarely go out to eat anymore for supper because we're both too tired in the evenings to enjoy it, and I rarely fix a hot breakfast and usually have toast or cereal,

so I'm going to treat myself to a real breakfast at a local cafe five minutes from my house a couple of times this month.

4. That even though I'd resolved to start a new novel at the beginning of November, I wrote only a few pages and then decided I hated the idea (the one that seemed so great a few weeks ago),

so I'm going to regroup and start something else (this will require that I sift through my idea folder and then sit in my thinking chair for an hour or two for an internal brainstorming session...and take notes, of course).

5. That my office still looks like it was rifled by a team of burglars looking for my stash of dark chocolate,

so today I'm going to take two boxes of papers downstairs and sort through them (throwing most into the recycle bag, I'm sure) while I listen to Christmas music on the radio.

6. That I'm hungry,

so I'm going to finish this off and have a banana and a cup of Greek yogurt (which is such a good healthy lunch that I'll feel completely justified at having a small movie popcorn next week).

Patricia - Good for you to take some time to do the things that are important to you. Yvonne's right that we always seem to do for others, and not enough for ourselves. Umm...but if those burglars who rifled your office didn't steal the dark chocolate, I could use some ;-).

Ha! You go, Patricia! :)

Blog holidays are VERY important, I think, because it is so easy to get into a pattern of posting the same old stuff all the time. I've come back after every break fueled with creative energy and a greater appreciation for the blog community in general.

If you ever need any movie watching suggestions, let me know. The wife and I are movie hounds and use what little free time we have going to the theater. Heard the new movie Black Swan that's coming out soon is supposed to be good for the mystery/thriller types.

Yvonne, it's going to seem like Christmas all month long.

LOL, Margot -- I took inventory yesterday and I have seven bars -- I have the 85% Lindt dark choc, and then Ghirardelli came out with 86% cacao so I have some of those, and then Lindt countered with a 90% cacao, so I have one of those. And since I only eat about half a square, and not every day anymore, I can certainly share. Come on over.

Thanks, E.J. I follow movie trends through Netflix, but I'm always way behind what everyone else is watching. All recommendations are welcome. I like almost any genre if the acting and story are good.

I think that's fabulous! I think we all should take that approach and treat ourselves to things occasionally. :) Enjoy your special time.

Love your plans for the month. Take time to smell the cinnamon, Patricia!

A very sane idea. Can I come to the movies with you and have a nice breakfast in a cafe too? Enjoy.

I applaud each of these ideas - and I wish I was able to do most of them - although I balk at the idea of cleaning off where I write.

Those sound good to me! If you need movie recommendations, you know where to go.

Lisa -- I explained to my husband that this was Be-Good-To-Myself-December and that's why I'm going to a movie tomorrow and even scheduled an extra massage. He just laughed.

Karen -- I am...I even bought a couple of bars of gorgeous glycerin soap at the Holiday Mart Saturday and one has cinnamon in it.

You bet, Sonia. And maybe tea after the movie?

Elspeth, I have to do something, even if it's just move all the paper (probably three trees worth) into a closet. I can't imagine who made this mess. She must be a real slob.

Alex -- I thought of you first. I love your movie reviews.

I hope you have a great blogging break! Treat yourself--you deserve it! :)

Good mix of 'get productive' and 'treat yourself' Pat--I think it's a great set of stuff you've come up with.

Good for you! You should go enjoy some different things.
You forgot to answer the really important part of #5--did they find the stash?

There you go, nice list!

I was watching a movie this past weekend (Date Night), and one of the characters, a woman, was griping how her husband never took her dancing, and I thought: If you want to go dancing, go dancing. Why does he have to go with you?

So when you say you want to go to movies, and you go, I say, Good job!

"That my office still looks like it was rifled by a team of burglars looking for my stash of dark chocolate"...I thought for sure you were going to say "so, I'm leaving the dark chocolate in a big bowl on my desk."

Patricia Stoltey said...

Thanks, Golden. I'm going to fit a reading binge into the schedule, too.

Hi Hart! Speaking of productive, today I uploaded my first mystery to Kindle. Taking a look at Nook next.

No, Laura, the chocolate is cleverly hidden in plain sight, so the culprits missed it.

Thanks, Eric. That's exactly right. And by the time a couple is as old as my husband are I are (well, not ancient but over 65), they've usually adapted to doing some of their favorite things alone or with friends. Why torture a spouse by expecting him to do something he hates (like trying to make me play bridge, for instance)?

Patricia Stoltey said...

Holly, that would make the chocolate a little bit too handy for me to reach into the bowl. The way it is now, I have to get up and walk a few steps to reach the shelf it's on. :)

Enjoy your blog-holiday. Sounds like you have some big plans for the month. Hope you make it to some good movies and that you come up with a great idea for your next project. Also hope your dark chocolate stash is safe.

Love your plans, especially the movies. Makes me yearn to head to see a movie as well--maybe one that Alex recommends!

Thanks, Jane. December is beginning to feel pretty good. Having a clear calendar helps.

Monti -- For this week I'm looking at Unstoppable, Secretariat, Morning Glory, and The Warrior's Way (because the show times are right). Now I need to read more about them...

A holiday sounds like a good idea. Can I please come to the movies with you? I'll sit quietly.

Patricia Stoltey said...

LOL, Simon. Of course, but absolutely no chatting during the movie. I'm very strict about that. :)

I love the list; the other day I had a dental appointment, I wanted to sneak away and go to the movies. Didn't happen, I am going to plan to do it next time I'm out n' about. Chocolate stash, Nice!

I love the wisdom to let go.. You can always tuck your story away, to rework another day!
