The Post That Almost Was...But Isn't

I spent about an hour at New West Fest in Fort Collins (CO) yesterday morning. I'd planned to take my camera, but didn't. I'd planned to post fun photos in today's post, but can't. The main thing I got from the excursion was a good walk, a small cup of cookie dough gelato from the Gelazzi cart, and a tiny jar of honey-sweetened mint chocolate sauce.

I skipped my planned visit to the Farmer's Market and stopped in to check out the three-day sale at Whole Foods. That was a good decision. Lots of things were on sale so I bought lots of things.

After writing this blog post and one for Tuesday, I worked in the kitchen. I blanched several ears of corn, cut the corn off the cobs, and froze it. I salvaged the rest of the big sweet cherries I had in the refrigerator by removing the pits and cutting them up to use in homemade frozen yogurt.

And I cleaned out the refrigerator.

Yay me!

See you tomorrow for Chiseled in Rock Tuesday where I caution authors against letting characters have too much control over the plot.

Pat - Sounds as though you made good use of the time, and that mint chocolate sauce sounds wonderful :-).

The cookie dough gelato sounds heavenly. As do the sweet cherries. (: I don't know how you manage to do so much and still maintain a blogging schedule.

Sometimes a good change-of-plans is a great way to spend a weekend. That's what happened to my wife and me on Saturday. We went out to look at something specific for our new home and discovered that we want to do a whole lot more work on our living room. Spent the entire weekend gathering ideas, rather than working on writing/relaxing in front of the TV.

Sounds like you got a lot done even though you had to forgo other stuff.

Cleaning the refrigerator is never fun...

Margot, I tasted the mint chocolate and it is good. Now I need plain vanilla ice cream (the good kind) for the sauce. :)

Marlena, I took some of the cherries and mushed them up in the blender, added plain non-fat yogurt and a little sugar, and froze it up in my little Cuisinart freezer. It's delicious. As for blogging, I sometimes sneak in a quick and easy post, like this one.

Jan -- Well, it's the part I didn't tell you that's really fun. Hubby and I watched the original "Planet of the Apes" last night. I couldn't remember hardly any of that movie and I loved it.

Hi Giles. That sounds like it could turn into an expensive weekend. I sympathize since we need to replace the kitchen floor and do some other stuff as well.

Good morning, J.L. Everything's a trade-off, isn't it? With the corn and cherries, it was either get the job done or have the goodies spoil. Had to do it.

Hi Alex. That refrigerator cleaning is something I've put off for weeks. Found some interesting stuff in there, like a small bottle of Rochefort Belgian ale I'd forgotten about. There were a couple of other not-so-pleasant surprises too. :)

I had my first experience with a Trader Joe's this weekend. My husband had to reel me in - something about whole food stores and all that veggie and organic stuff that just make me go nuts.

I know what you mean, Diane. We don't have a Trader Joe's where I live, but I've been to them in California. I love those stores.

Sounds like you are "going with the flow" which is great. I just want to be with you when the honey-mint-chocolate sauce flows out of the jar!

Patricia Stoltey said...

I'd have to melt it to get it to flow, Dean. I might just decide to eat it out of the jar with a tiny spoon. How's that for flexibility?

Up here, a major excursion is to WalMart. But we do have a weekly farmer's market down in Woodland Park during the summer months.

I baked an almond torte for our community picnic this weekend, glazed with strawberries. It's one of the first baking ventures that's worked at altitude.

The almond torte sounds really good, Terry.

I'm not quite high enough...(that doesn't sound quite right)...so I don't have to deal with altitude when I'm baking, thank goodness.
