Worst Movies Ever Blogfest

I'm participating in Alex J. Cavanaugh's Worst Movies Ever Blogfest today. Alex says:

"Worst Movies Ever Blogfest!

On Monday, September 19, post a list of up to ten of the worst movies you’ve ever had the misfortune to watch. Films that just oozed awfulness and featured plot holes so big you could drive a bus through them. Any genre or year, but only theater and straight to video/DVD titles. (Otherwise we’d all list every movie ever made by the SyFy Channel!) Sign up, grab the button, and on September 19, give us the worst! And be sure to visit others participating in the blogfest."

The other 90+ players in this blogfest are listed at Alex's blog.

So with no further introduction, here are my ten nominees for worst movies ever:

1. The worst of the worst: Big Bad Mama with William Shatner and Angie Dickenson
2. Boogie Nights with Burt Reynolds and a whole laundry list of big names. Yes, I know it won awards. I don't know why.
3. The Razor's Edge starring Bill Murray.
4. The Misfits with Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe.
5. Anaconda with Jennifer Lopez.
6. Knight and Day with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.
7. Vanilla Sky with Tom Cruise and Penelope Cruz
8. Mr. Brooks with Kevin Costner and Demi Moore
9. Old Dogs with John Travolta
10. There's Something About Mary starring Cameron Diaz

It was hard to settle on ten. Really bad movies are much easier to find than good ones.

Pat - Oh, that's an interesting blogfest idea! Thanks for sharing your list. I have to agree with you about a few of them...

Gulp, I like Boogie Nights

I think I was one of the only guys not to like Something About Mary, but I didn't find it funny and I don't think Diaz is pretty. Good list, Patricia. Thanks for participating in the blogfest.

It's crazy how one movie can grab some people while others hate it, just like with books, I guess. I found as I was putting my list together, I kept coming up with movies starring Tom Cruise or Cameron Diaz. And since Cruise has been selected to play my favorite thriller character, Lee Child's Jack Reacher, I'm really disappointed.

OH, great list! I haven't seen some of the movies you've listed, but I sure have heard of them! :)

I liked some of those films you listed. I probably would have liked Vanilla Sky much better if I had never seen Abre los Ojos(the orginal Spanish version of the film, which is much better). I didn't dislike Vanilla Sky, but I was very disappointed since it didn't meet my expectations. I recall after seeing the Spanish version in the theater I told my wife that they needed to remake the film in English and that Tom Cruise would be great in the role. Sadly, they did and something was lacking.

Fun list though.

the misfits, really? wow. I think most of your list is a bit contreversal as a lot of people seem to like a lot of the films you mention. Just goes to show you how people are different.

I agree with most of your choices and I TOTALLY forgot about Anaconda. It should have been on my list...

Thanks for the list, Patricia. It's always fun to see what movies others think are awful.

Liked half of your picks and hated the other half. Old Dogs - MEH! Knight and Day - so much fun!:)

These are bad! Anaconda ranked eighteen on a scale of one to ten on the stupid scale.

Nice pics. Vanilla Sky drove me nuts.

I've never seen any of these movies--which I'm glad of! :P

There's Something About Mary was pretty stupid. So was Anaconda.

All I'm gonna say is that I really liked one of your listed 10. I'll never say which one!

Anaconda was ridiculous. I actually liked Something About Mary--although there were a lot of groan-worthy moments.

Great list, Pat. Anaconda, in particular, was a howling stinker. It got slightly better if you rooted for the snake. (My teenage son and I make a game of Sci Fi originals and campy things like Anaconda every once in a while, by making popcorn and cheering for the monsters while doing MST3k-style voiceover narration about what's going on.)

I've always wondered, just how bad could The Razor's Edge be?

Patricia Stoltey said...

This is such a fun fest -- I love hearing what others thing of these movies. Must answer Diane -- the original Razor's Edge with Tyrone Power was kinda cool, but Bill Murray played the part with a perpetual smirk which made me crazy.

Oh, I really liked Boogie Nights and Something about Mary, but I can see why they would rub some the wrong way. Anaconda was awesomely bad. Great list!

Big Bad Mama - I have to rent that now. I had no idea William Shatner and Angie Dickinson did a movie together.

I haven't thought of Big Bad Mama in years. That was a bad movie. Never was crazy about The Misfits either thought I like Clark Gable. It was a sad movie to me knowing it was the last one for both actors. Great selection.

Vanilla Sky - pretentious. Dreadful. I didn't "get" it. Thanks for the memory jog :-)

Jeff Beesler said...

Boogie Nights is the only movie title I recognize from your list of the worst. I shall endeavor to avoid as many of these as I possibly can. Thanks for sharing!

Pat Hatt said...

Yes they were all dreadful, uggg crap indeed.

Vanilla Sky was a movie that left me totally confused. I'm still kind of spooked about it.
There's Something About Mary is a movie that you either love or hate. I still can't decide. When I've seen it years ago, I wanted to run out of the movie theater, screaming. But over the years I started to like a few scenes in there :-)
Great list - most of these movies I've never seen, which makes me soooo happy. Yippee.

They could have saved Anaconda from worst movie lists if only Jennifer Lopez had been swallowed.

Knight and Day wasn't very good, but it didn't make my list of 10 worst.

However, Killers, which came out close to the same time as K&D with a similar plot idea SHOULD have made my list. I just forgot about it until I saw your list.
