H is for Humor (Writing): My A to Z Wish List

I wish I could write humor as easily as I write about crime. Erma Bombeck comes to mind.

"I haven't trusted polls since I read that 62% of women had affairs during their lunch hour. I've never met a woman in my life who would give up lunch for sex."

Dave Barry too.

"The word user is the word used by the computer professional when they mean idiot."

Reading humor can lift a reader's spirits and pull her out of the grumps.

Who's your favorite humor writer?

Janet Evanovich is great. Though, I can never seem to inject humour into my novels. Which makes me think that maybe I am just not that funny. It is rather an art form, I guess.

Pat - Oh, I've loved Dave Barry's work for a long time! He's wonderful. I wish I could write humour as well, but I don't have that chromosome. In my case anyway, I would rather not write humour than have it be forced.

I adore Erma Bombeck and Dave Barry! I can't pull off that kind of humour, but I love it! :)

All my humor is accidental. Even though I have a very well-developed sense of humor it doesn't seem to be the same as being able to create it.
One of my favorite gentle humorists was Jean Shepherd. I discovered him lurking between the pages of my husband's Car and Driver magazine many years ago.

I haven't read too many humor books (outside of The Far Side and others) but I enjoyed sportcaster Tony Kornheiser's "Im Back for More Cash."

Erma Bombeck was the first writer who caused me to literally laugh out loud - and this was back in the days when 'lol' meant you'd mistyped. I'm not sure what you'd mistyped, but you had. Work with me here.

I wish I could write about crime as easily as I write humor. It seems like so much hard work. Whereas humor just flows out of my fingertips. My husband says it's because I'm a smart aleck. He might be onto something there...

I've always been a fan of humor writers. Dave Barry's among the best but I have to give it to the late great Lewis Grizzard as my favorite modern humorist with Mark Twain leading the pack for the all time title.
