K is for Kayak: My A to Z Wish List

I wish I was brave enough to venture out on a lake in a kayak. I have a friend who's just as old as I am who isn't afraid, and she handles herself and the kayak just fine.

What am I afraid of? Mostly that I'll get caught in the darned thing, it will flip upside down, and I won't be able to get out.

So why do I bother wishing I could learn? Because I'm enchanted by the vision of skimming across a quiet lake at sunrise, enjoying the peace and quiet.

Pat - Oh, I hope someday you get the chance to try a kayak. I've kayaked (admittedly only a few times) and it really is fun. It's hard work, though - lots of exercise.

My wife has the same fear about kayaking. She's worried she'll flip and drown. Maybe we'd be better off trying to canoe instead?

Yes, I've heard that. That's another reason I probably won't be trying kayaking soon.

YES, that is definitely on my wish list...I want to kayak on the ocean as well as the lake Winnepesaki in New Hampshire :) let's go!

That is a nice wish and an understandable fear, but as I'm not much of a swimmer, I'll watch you conquer that fear and enjoy the beautiful sunrise from the shore.

Happy A to Zing!

Kayaking is an amazing sport. I kayak, and it's the most wonderful feeling ever. I will suggest it for anyone who wants to try new sports.

I'm not great on water - I think my fear would mirror yours, Patricia! I'd be terrified of getting stuck underwater.

However, I can quite understand the peace and serenity of paddling along in calm waters.... ;-)

Happy A-Z'ing!

SueH I refuse to go quietly!

Hi Patricia .. Kayaking has always seemed fun - I've never had the chance to try it, but I'd be anxious about going over .. but I'd give it a go .. a short go - as I too would need the exercise to take longer trips! Cheers - the thought sounds wonderful .. Hilary
