Don't forget to leave a comment.....and a photo of a Colorado sunset

Remember, even a comment on today's mini-post is an entry to win the 2013 Northern Colorado Writers writing planner. See the details here.

The deadline is midnight tonight (U.S. Mountain Time) and the winner will be announced tomorrow.

Now for your viewing enjoyment, here's a photo of a Northern Colorado sunset (unenhanced) taken over the Thanksgiving weekend. The color was most likely influenced by the Fern Lake Fire which has been burning in Rocky Mountain National Park for two months. It's now getting way too close to Estes Park, prompting some recent evacuations. We're hoping for a big snow up there to get that fire put out.

Beautiful sunset, but terrible as to what caused it. My husband and I went camping in RMNP, almost every summer and one time there was such a sunset, and I knew that wasn't normal. There was a fire that was burning somewhere (can't recall), and it took the lives of several firefighters.

Hoping that the snows will come and put it out. I know exactly where you're talking about. But the blight that's been killing the trees out there, what a terrible loss. Won't be the same in our beloved RMNP, not in our life-time, anyway.

We had a few spectacular sunsets this summer with all the fires, but knowing the source sure takes a bit of the edge off the beauty. We need snow. Crested Butte is making snow and has so few runs open.

As beautiful as it is -- it looks like a burning, churning fire in the sky.

I hope you get the snow you need!

Sorry it was enhanced by a fire, but it's a beautiful shot.

Lorelei -- we took a drive to Steamboat Springs last year and another drive into the hills closer to the Front Range this summer. Seeing all the beetle kill trees is heartbreaking, and now we have so much charred landscape as well. It's sad.

Julie -- doesn't seem possible it's ski season after all this warm weather.

Hi Yolanda -- Good description of the photo...I remember seeing even more spectacular sunsets in Florida when fires were burning in the Everglades.

Thanks, Alex. This one was shot with my little handy-dandy Olympus.

We've had too many of those kinds of sunsets this year, but I can't help but wonder is 2013 will be worse.

I'm worried about that too, Kay. I could do without another summer of smoky air.

Fires always seem to make the most beautiful sunset pictures. Beautiful shot.
