The First Book in Literary Agent Rachelle Gardner's Field Guide for Authors Series

The first book in literary agent Rachelle Gardner's A Field Guide for Authors series is available now for Kindle readers and will soon be available for other e-readers.

How Do I Decide? Self-Publishing vs. Traditional Publishing does a good job of laying out the pros and cons for authors at every stage of their careers. The 76-page e-book is a fast read if the author is looking for an overview, but contains checklists and explanations for a more detailed examination of the authors preferences, needs, and abilities.

Gardner makes it clear. The decision is not one to be taken lightly. Knowing all the facts ahead of time prevents mistakes and keeps the process real.

Articles from writers who have moved from traditional publishing to self-publishing and vice versa, as well as a Q and A with an author who uses both methods at the same time, help illustrate Gardner's explanation.

The list of resources at the end of How Do I Decide? includes print and online references, cover art designers, editors, and more.

How Do I Decide? Self-Publishing vs. Traditional Publishing is a good basic guide to help a writer make an informed decision. The fact that Rachelle Gardner is a literary agent who seeks contracts with traditional publishers for her clients should not indicate a bias. After all, Gardner has jumped into self-publishing with this e-book series, and I expect she'll share everything she learns by posting more helpful posts on her blog at http://www.rachellegardner.com/

Published by RL Gardner Publishing (January 22, 2013)
e-book $3.99
Stay tuned. More field guides from Rachelle will be available soon.

Pat - Thanks for this! You're absolutely right that it's hard to decide whether to self-publish or not and it's an important decision. There are ramifications and consequences for either choice. This really looks interesting.

Pat, Thanks for this. I'm glad to know about this book because I've enjoyed hearing and meeting Rachelle at NCW and know how much she has to offer. It is a tough decision and many of us are at that choice point. Thanks.
