If I Had My Druthers....

I'd eat TCBY frozen yogurt with hot fudge sauce and peanut butter cup pieces whenever I felt like it.

A whole team of housekeepers would come in and clean my home from top to bottom once a month.

My private office would be soundproofed and climate-controlled.

My person (because anyone who has her druthers has a person) would grocery shop, clothes shop, office supply shop, file, and also clean the cat's litter box.

Researchers would finally declare caffeinated coffee healthy in any quantity.

And my novels Dead Wrong, Wishing Caswell Dead, and mystery with no title would be published by 2014.

That's if I had my druthers.

From The Phrase Finder website:

Druthers, as opposed to its earlier variant drathers, is traced back to 1876 in Dialect Notes:

"Bein's I caint have my druthers an' set still, I cal'late I'd better pearten up an' go 'long."

I know -- that was a frivolous list up there.

But if I truly had my druthers:

No one would ever hurt a child again.

Families would always take care of each other without squabbling.

Politicians would serve and represent with honesty and integrity.

And people would not threaten or kill each other over land or religion or political ideology.

The quote is not an option. We should never just go along...

Growing up is coming to terms with our druthers. Sigh. Your final list was poignant and I would second them all. May a few of your druthers come true for you!

Can't relate to the coffee, but the rest of your list is perfect.

Integrity - that would be something, wouldn't it?

I so agree with you, especially about the fighting around the world about religions, etc.

I really do wish you had your druthers.
It sure would be a better world...

Julie -- I hope so. I need a little help from the universe with that second list.

Alex, coffee runs through my veins...

Hi Diane -- yes, it certainly would.

Sonia -- I never could understand that.

Hi Pat -- I suspect most folks share my druthers. Seems like that would be enough for us to get the job done.

Agreed! Although I'd change up the coffee to Chai tea :)

I really, really want a person - I figure they could clean the house too - right?? :)

Clean the cat box, huh? Yep, that sounds about right.

Pat - I love this! Yes, I like your frivolous ones and I really do hope your novels get published. Soon. But I love your others too. No child should ever get hurt (I've just read of the rescue of that boy in AL and have that on my mind). And no, we should never just go along...

Jemi -- Chai tea sounds good too, but I'm not sure it has enough caffeine for me. And yes, my person would definitely clean house. :D

Julie -- Absolutely. As a matter of fact, the cat might need her own person. She likes a lot of play time and walks outside in her harness and leash.

Thanks, Margot -- The news the child in Alabama was rescued and appears to be fine was a big relief. These things weigh on my heart.
