Woodswoman Walking El Camino de Santiago

A wonderful lady from right here in Northern Colorado, who calls her blog "Woodswoman Walking...an oldish woman's adventures on foot" is going to walk the Camino de Santiago beginning September 1st. The trek is about 800-900 km, much of it on paved roads and passing through a whole slew of rustic and historic villages.

I want to share her adventure without all the preparation, expense, and pain, so I've signed up to receive an e-mail anytime she finds internet access and posts an update. You can do that at her blog.

A little bit about why Woodswoman wants to do the pilgrimage can be found in her post: Going Within Part I.

I was most interested in her words "...I have a compelling desire to go inward, not for something specific, but rather for the experience of NOT having an agenda for once in my life."

I wonder if Woodswoman has read 10 Reasons Why El Camino Santiago Sucks from Frances Tapon's Wanderlearn blog. He makes it sound as though the pilgrimage is more like an adventure in dodging traffic, tourists and vendors.

I always wanted to do the Appalachian Trail but it never happened. Have you walked one of the great trails of the world? If so, would you do it again? And if not, is a trek like one of these still on your bucket list?

I don't think I've ever walked a famous trail. She's going to have quite an adventure all right.

What an adventure! I've actually been very fascinated with the El Camino Santiago since I saw the movie, The Way. I'm excited to follow her journey!

Hi Pat .. no I haven't walked any trails .. I struggle with hiking - always have sadly and an injury in my 30s added to the 'no' to it.

Sounds fascinating - there was a book at bedtime 'recently' that I listened to ... about a woman walking along a trail .. it was a fascinating listen - but can't remember its name. However I see a few books written about the trail and the missions along its route ..

Cheers Hilary

Pat - What an interesting trek! Wow! I've hiked on the Appalachian Trail, but not over 'the long haul' - just weekend stuff. And I can't blame her at all for wanting to find her own self, so to speak, and not have an agenda. I love the idea of that.

I always have wanted to walk the Appalachian or Colorado Trail and may do it yet. I have friends who sold their home, retired and are touring the world. I read their blog regularly and live vicariously through their adventure and joy. All the best to your friend-- I admire her journey, both the physical and spiritual.
