Just So You Know...I Write Just Because

Katie Cat won the day yesterday. She not only bugged me until I took her outside (with harness and leash), but later when I got up to fetch a glass of iced tea, she stole my chair...or at least the cushion.

She has now adopted my computer chair cushion as the best place for her afternoon nap and to sleep on at night instead of our bed. I must take the bitter with the sweet. It's lovely to have her sleeping in another room at night. Not so cute to have her steal my chair when I want to work.

I'm bringing another cushion upstairs today. It will be interesting to see if she'll sleep on that cushion if it's not on my chair.

Meanwhile, when I'm not wrestling with Katie Cat's demands, I'm writing, reading, preparing a few book reviews, and pulling weeds in my garden. No gardening today, however. It's supposed to break 90 degrees. I've hauled my fan out of the closet to get ready. A fresh jug of peppermint and green tea prepared in my sun tea jug chills in the fridge.

Mystery writer Mark Stevens has a post on the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers blog today that asks the question, "What's Your Reason for Writing?" I think I write just because I need to write. It's wonderful to get published, of course, but I've written several novels that may remain forever on a shelf in my office or stiffed in a file box. I know I'll write lots more stuff that never gets published. But I'll continue to write as long as I'm able.

Just because...

You have a cat burglar!
I write because I enjoy it. Getting published was just a bonus.

It sounds like your Katie Cat knows that she is the boss.... but then I think all cats think they are the boss... haha
I'm glad that you like to write. It takes a real talent to do it and do it well. Obviously you do it well to get 2 books published. good for you.... keep up the good work.

Pat - It makes perfect sense that Katie Cat would take your chair. She knows who rules the roost.

Interesting question about why people write. I write because I have stories in my mind and I have to write them or they'll give me no peace. Seriously. Oh, and it's fun, too.

I love that Katie Cat took her computer chair cushion. I'm guessing she'll think the new cushion is for you, not her. Gumdrop used to lay across my wrists while I tried typing and Little One would just sit beside the computer and stare at me like 'Aren't you though yet?' So far Traveler doesn't seem to care much one way or the other when I'm on the computer. Cats - gotta love 'em.

I write because I like it. It's not to get rich. My cat used to love sleeping on my computer chair.
