Book Review and Giveaway: The Night Before Hanukkah by Natasha Wing

I have a weakness for browsing the children's book department whenever I'm in a bookstore, so it gives me great pleasure to feature a children's book author on this blog from time to time. This year, one of our favorite authors from Northern Colorado has released a new book in her "Night Before...." series. If you're a regular follower of this blog, you've been introduced to Natasha before and heard about The Night Before Father's Day, The Night Before Mother's Day, Night Before the Night Before Christmas, and her own special book about pie, A Slice of Humboldt Pie.

This year, Natasha's celebrating this holiday season with The Night Before Hanukkah, a charming and beautifully illustrated (by Amy Wummer) tale that entertains and educates.

The story begins the night before the eight days of Hanukkah and tells how one family celebrates from lighting the first candle in the Menorah to that last day when they discover they're one candle short. The descriptions of the games and the gifts are balanced by notes about Jewish tradition and history. And the clever solution to the candle shortage at the end of the story will bring a smile to kids and grownups alike.

The Night Before Hanukkah is highly recommended.

Author Natasha Wing graduated from Arizona State University in 1982 with a B.S. in Advertising. Wing lives in Fort Collins, Colorado, with her husband, Dan and their cat, Purrsia. They moved to Colorado for the outdoor life and Wing was “happy to find a thriving writing community and a library that is open seven days a week with excellent programs for writers.” She has been publishing for 22 years and is a frequent presenter at conferences and schools and loves to Skype with classrooms.

I'm pleased to offer one signed copy of The Night Before Hanukkah to a U.S. resident who leaves a comment on today's post before midnight tomorrow (Tuesday) Mountain Time. The winner will be announced here on Wednesday.

Congratulations, Natasha. What a great idea that series is; and a nice addition to have a book for Hanukkah.
