I feel so fortunate to have been able to go to Florence several times now. I feel that helped me describe the atmosphere, take note of the time it takes to walk places, and so much more. (Not to mentioning trying the wonderful gelato!) "Being there" has inspired plot and settings, and so much more.Alana Whitehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15236727516841572233noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6757567191914795875.post-44890126316053470252012-06-07T05:18:23.226-06:002012-06-07T05:18:23.226-06:00Excellent post. I did have my characters visit a real city in wip, but Google was very helpful for that scene :)Jemi Fraserhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02214408467456320167noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6757567191914795875.post-58490183636713288652012-06-06T17:06:03.353-06:002012-06-06T17:06:03.353-06:00Jacqueline, you're right about the fear of law...Jacqueline, you're right about the fear of lawsuits. That has made me super cautious about hotels and restaurants. However, big city locations are different. In Death Legacy, I used real locations in New York City and Washington D.C. that I know very well. As Gail says, it's necessary for the sake of authenticity.Jacqueline Seewaldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09177500620940251009noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6757567191914795875.post-73960840404120060172012-06-06T16:04:21.860-06:002012-06-06T16:04:21.860-06:00One thing I learned from my book submissions is th...One thing I learned from my book submissions is that even if you use a real city, it's better to create fictitious restaurants, hotels, shops, etc. Then you don't need to ask anyone's permission to use their establishment. Besides, fictitious is so much easier to work into a story. :DPatricia Stolteyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17192369425956406122noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6757567191914795875.post-2647281035434834522012-06-06T13:52:29.954-06:002012-06-06T13:52:29.954-06:00One of the perks of being an author is incorporati...One of the perks of being an author is incorporating vacations site into your book. I think if you use a real place you should see it to get the full flavour into your writing, but not all places are that easily reached. I shall be flying to Canada this year for the first time and maybe that will go into my next book!liz younghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16289501717229347872noreply@blogger.com
