Katrina "Kat" -- New Member of the Household

My husband and I visited the local animal shelter yesterday and found a three-month-old tabby that liked us as much as we liked her.

For the first two hours in our house, she ran up and down the stairs, explored every corner and cubbyhole, ran and jumped and played, smelled the flowers on all my plants, and purred a lot.

Every few minutes she'd jump in a lap and demand petting, then dash away for more exploration. She moved so fast I found it hard to take pictures. She'd be perfectly posed, but by the time the shutter clicked, she was on her way to some new adventure. I have a lot of photos like this:

And this:

At one point she checked out my Writer's Digests, then went for a short cut to the little ball on the couch:

And finally she found my husband sitting at his computer and claimed his lap for a nap.

Needless to say, I didn't spend much time at the computer yesterday or last night. I was busy reminding Katrina where I'd placed the litter box, where her food and water was, that "No" meant, "No scratching on the furniture...that's what this scratching thingie is for," and making sure she was only smelling the African violets, not eating them.

I even cleared space on my office table so she could get to the window sill and stare out the front window.

When I finally did sit down to write this blog post, she ended up in my lap, taking another snooze.

Such fun!!!

oh isn't it heaven having a new critter in your home?! In the spring we'll get a wee flock of day-old chicks again - I can't wait.

She's a happy cat now! We have to stay away from shelters or we'd quickly run out of room for the people in our house. Both of our dogs are rescues, and they're the sweetest animals in the world. I'm not sure why folks would pay lots of money for an animal, when there are so many wonderful ones that simply need good homes at the local shelters, etc.

I'm not sure writing is even possible without some kind of critter buzzing around your feet! :)

Katrina is right at home - and so happy to be there. You'll be a great family. Congrats on adopting her. Or her adopting you. Or whatever :)

Kittens are so adorable! You definitely need to make her a priority right now to enjoy because they, like children, aren't kittens very long. She'll soon be grownup!

Good morning all, after a restless night's sleep during which "Kat" had to be carried downstairs three times because she wanted to play instead of sleep, I'm now trying to convince her not to help me type.

I love it! I've now provided myself with one more wonderful distraction...or muse.

Thanks for posting these pictures, Pat and I love the newest member of your household. Grey tabbies are wonderful. Enjoy listening to that kitten purr; it always amuses me how very, very loud it is.

That reminded me of the times I used to chase my kids around trying to get photographs. I don't any longer, not because they've started posing, but I have got the wisdom to accept what I cannot capture.
But that first photograph is worth all those botched attempts- she's really cute.
