Monday, Monday...what to blog about on Monday?

Breakthrough is free today and tomorrow for your Kindle

Well, first, I'd like to mention blogger/author Stephen Tremp's novel Breakthrough: The Adventures of Chase Manhattan, which is book one in the Breakthrough Trilogy, is supposed to be free for your Kindle today and tomorrowBreakthrough is a scientific thriller which features wormholes, a topic that I find a lot more interesting and a lot less terrifying than, say, black holes. I enjoyed Breakthrough when I read it over a year ago and am now looking forward to reading the second book in the trilogy, Opening.

Hot, Hot, Hot

It was a scorcher in Northern Colorado yesterday and windy too, and still no rain. The smoky smell and haze returned to our town yesterday afternon. The High Park fire may burn all summer, they say, and we still could get smoke from time to time, depending on the winds.

I remember driving through Yellowstone National Park ten years after the big fire there and seeing huge sections of forest that still had not fully recovered. I know that fire has always been nature's way of renewing an overgrown forest, but it's hard to watch.

Odd Dreams

I've always had that well-known dream about the upcoming final examination which I had not studied for, or even failed to attend the class all semester.

In the last week, I've had two variations of that dream.

In the first, opening night of a play was fast approaching and I had not yet learned any of my lines.

In the second dream, I exited a shopping mall from a different door than I had entered, and I found myself totally lost in an unfamiliar neighborhood in a huge city without a map.

It appears I'm not adequately preparing for something and my subconscious knows it.

What I'm Reading

I was distracted by a busy schedule for a few weeks, but I finally finished Tallgrass by Sandra Dallas yesterday morning. I love her books, and now I think this one will be my favorite (replacing The Persian Pickle Club). I'm just finishing up The Corner Cafe: A Tasty Collection of Short Stories on my Kindle (and I'll be posting more about this book next Monday).

Next up:  The Last Kind Words by Tom Piccirilli, which I purchased Thursday evening at Tom's book signing in Fort Collins.

What are you reading these days?

Wow, I hope things stay under control with the fire. I remember one summer when massive fires were burning in Central Canada and all the smoke blew down... it was a very strange few days. Happy Monday!

I hope you get rain soon. We've been rather cool for June.
On the final chapters of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter right now.

Perhaps your dream of unpreparedness (IS there such a word?) relates to your anxiety about the fire. Pack an emergency bag of things you might need in case of forced evacuation - that might ease your sleep. Or make you even more jittery, of course!

Those fires are really scary, I'm sure more for you than for me, as I am several hundred miles away in East Texas. When we had a fire a mile from us last year, it was very nerve-wracking. Didn't know whether to pack up and leave or not.

Thanks for the shout-out for the short story collection. I have a story in it and was thrilled to be a part of the book.

Stop by my blog when you get a chance. I have a present for you. (smile)

I live in a part of the country that is always prone to wildfires. It's VERY hot and windy today. That always makes me a bit nervous...

I got Stephen's lasted book a while ago and like it!

I hope you don;t get smoked out over the summer. I've been in those things, and they are only fun if you are slightly demented.
