Chiseled in Rock Tuesday
I have a published Colette Auclair's guest post about writing glacially over at Chiseled in Rock blog. Are you a cheetah or a sloth when it comes to writing?
Did I Meet My Goal at the Writers' Retreat?
Sort of. I would have made that 15,000 word target if I had skipped the movie on Saturday night. However, after pounding the keys until nearly midnight and getting up early to start again, I needed the break and a little social time. My final word count was 13,936, an average of almost 900 words per hour. I'm happy with that.
My challenge is to keep going. NaMoWriMo is just around the corner and that will help a lot.
I have some new photos too and will post a few here and more on the Northern Colorado Writers Facebook page. Soon, very soon.
I probably shouldn't tell this part but . . . I also gained 2.5 pounds while I sat and wrote and snacked but neglected exercise. There's a big lesson there.
Thursday's Guest
You won't want to miss Melanie Chisnall's post on Thursday, especially if you've never visited Cape Town, South Africa. Melanie sent lots of photos to show us what her writing life is like.
Hurricane
I hope everyone in the path of this horrible storm is okay. Even when the storm has passed and clean-up begins, be very careful.

Pat - I'm very impressed with how much work you've gotten done on your novel! Movie or no movie, you got an awful lot done. And I am looking forward to Melanie Chishall's post; I've only been through Cape Town once and I'd love to go back.
You're right about this kind of storm too; post-storm cleanup can be almost as dangerous as the storm itself. I hope everyone's safe, too...
Now, off to check out CIR!
A little break is all right. What movie did you see?
Thanks, Margot. I'm excited about finishing this first draft just in time to launch a new project Nov. 1st. And Melanie's post made me want to book a flight right away. :D
Alex, the retreat movie always has some connection to writers or writing. This time it was Adaptation with Nicholas Cage and Meryl Streep. It's bizarre.
Hi Patricia-- I'm so glad to meet someone from Colorado! I'm just getting plugged into the writer group here, so didn't get to take advantage of the conference this year-- next year though! I'm hoping to find a few folks on the "other side" of the mountains too. Thanks for connecting with me; I'm very grateful.
900 words per hour is pretty fast!
Pat: I easily pushed 5 pounds over the retreat weekend...and thought I was showing some restraint!
Still worth it though. Nicely done!
