I did not like mashed potatoes and gravy.
I did not like geometry or geography.
I did not like to clean up my room or the bathroom.
When I Grew Up
I learned that mashed potatoes and gravy are delicious but fattening, so now I crave them, deprive myself, and periodically give in and eat lots. Like at Thanksgiving.
I learned that everything from arranging furniture to laying out a garden uses principles of geometry, and my love of travel is enhanced by every tiny bit of geography I ever studied
I learned that some things never change. I still do not like to clean house, especially the bathrooms.
Now What About You?
What did you dislike as a child, and has that changed...or not?

When I was young...I hated eating my veggies. Now, veggies are primarily what I eat! :)
I like your list, Pat.
Pat - When I was young, I saw no point at all in algebra. Now I can't imagine not using it for taxes, tips, budgets, etc...
I've actually grown quite fond of cleaning as an adult. It's almost a guilty pleasure.
I used to hate mushrooms, but now we eat them all the time.
I didn't like going to bed early when I was a kid. Love it now.
I was an oddball child where veggies were concerned. Every night, after everyone else left the table, I'd finish the salad sans dressing. Wasn't crazy about many cooked veggies, particularly since Mom had a tendency to start with canned and cook them to mush, but loved, loved, loved green beans and corn. Still love veggies and am blessed to be married to a man who does as well.
Wow, veggies are topping the list. I was raised on a farm and grew accustomed to all kinds of delicious home-grown veggies so I've always liked them...except radishes...and they don't really count. Now I have raised garden beds so I can still have the good things, especially green beans, tomatoes, carrots, and squash.
Hi Pat .. I think you should have entered the anti-gary fest .. your post is just right ..
I've always loved vegetables I think .. and now definitely very definitely so ...
Loved geometry - turned out I wasn't much good at .. geography was the best ...
and .. cleaning not so happy now-a-days!
Cheers and enjoy all those veggies .. Hilary
In high school, I hated Latin, which I was required to study for two years. Now I realize Latin helped improve my vocabulary and do well in college because so many words have roots in Latin.
When I was little I wanted to be a singer. When I grew up, I realized I had intense stage-fright. So much for that dream.
When I was a wee lass, I was an avid reader and couch potato. I still am an avid reader, but now know that working out is good for my mental, as well as physical health.
And like everyone else here, I was not a veggie fan but thankfully love 'em now!
I hated eggs, onions, brussel sprouts, and coffee...now I love them all.
I also hated making the bed, but now love the orderly look it gives :)
No mashed potatoes and gravy? I've always loved that.
We had our own garden and I was one of those rare kids that ate whatever was in front of me. Now that I'm an adult and a vegan, there is more I don't like.
that was fun! the young arent open to the long run, but immediate gratification! good thing we are forced to learn! and inventions make life/cleaning easier, right?!
happy monday!
Cleaning ladies help a lot too. :D
As a kid I hated loud firecrackers. As an adult I still hate them. In India, people firecrackers on all occasions, right in the middle of a busy road, and throughout the year. I'm half-deaf already!
Prashant, I can definitely identify with that one. I hated the big fireworks displays--the noise, the falling ash, the smoke. I still won't attend those "celebrations" today. The big shows are pretty from a distance though. :D
I still don't like cleaning, especially bathrooms--but I do it anyway.
I hated eating eggs as a child, but now I eat them once a week because I know they're healthy.
